Alf Arrowsmith arrived at Liverpool as a 17-year-old and a year later his name was on everybody's lips at Anfield because he couldn't stop scoring for the reserves.

<p>Arrowsmith netted no fewer than 65 goals at that level between 1961 and 1963.</p><p>His breakthrough into the first team arrived in the latter part of the championship-winning 1963-64 season, when he scored 18 goals in 23 games.</p><p><a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/roger-hunt"><strong>Roger Hunt</strong></a>, <a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/ian-st-john"><strong>Ian St John</strong></a> and Arrowsmith contributed a massive 67 league goals that season as Liverpool powered to their first title success for 17 years.</p><p>That was as good as it got for Arrowsmith, who only made a further 19 starts (plus four as substitute) over the next four seasons.</p><p>He finally left Liverpool to join Bury in December 1968. He was described as a born goalscorer by Bill Shankly but was unlucky with injuries.</p>
