Alf Arrowsmith arrived at Liverpool as a 17-year-old and a year later his name was on everybody's lips at Anfield because he couldn't stop scoring for the reserves.

Arrowsmith netted no fewer than 65 goals at that level between 1961 and 1963.

His breakthrough into the first team arrived in the latter part of the championship-winning 1963-64 season, when he scored 18 goals in 23 games.

Roger Hunt, Ian St John and Arrowsmith contributed a massive 67 league goals that season as Liverpool powered to their first title success for 17 years.

That was as good as it got for Arrowsmith, who only made a further 19 starts (plus four as substitute) over the next four seasons.

He finally left Liverpool to join Bury in December 1968. He was described as a born goalscorer by Bill Shankly but was unlucky with injuries.
