Holland opened the scoring for Liverpool FC Women during the first half of Thursday night's 2-1 win in the north east by firing in from around 25 yards out.

The Wales international had only been on the pitch for a handful of minutes after replacing the injured Sophie Roman Haug.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com post-match, Holland said: "It came out to me and Gareth has been talking about having some more shots.

"The space opened up and I just hit it and it left my foot pretty nice. It was a nice one to score.

"You have to always be ready to go. Obviously it was really tough to lose Sophie early on in the game and hopefully that's OK.

"As subs, we're always ready, we're always watching the game, seeing where the spaces are. It was good to come on and get a goal so early. It settled me."

Holland's effort was equalised prior to half-time direct from a corner, but Sam Kerr delivered an 86th-minute winner to secure the points for the visitors.

The result puts Liverpool on the cusp of qualification for the quarter-finals, having also claimed victory in their group-stage opener versus Sunderland last month.

"It's really important to get some wins under our belt and get the confidence up with the girls," Holland continued.

"We know it's been a really tough start in terms of the results, but I think we've seen real improvements. We know this is a process.

"Gareth and Chad [Gribble] coming in has been fantastic. I think you can really see the learnings that are coming out on the pitch now.

"I think we were unlucky on Sunday against Man City and then we dominated the [Durham] game. I think we dominated and it's good to get a bit of momentum."
