Highly-rated defender Sepp van den Berg joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in June 2019.
The young centre-back was the club's first signing since becoming champions of Europe for the sixth time earlier that month.
A Netherlands youth international, he went on to make four first-team appearances during his debut season at Anfield, in the FA Cup and League Cup.
Van den Berg was also an unused substitute on the night the Reds won the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time by beating Flamengo 1-0 in Qatar in December 2019.
In February 2021, he headed out on loan to Preston North End to gain further experience in the Championship and impressed in his 16 appearances, paving the way for a return to Deepdale for the entire 2021-22 season.
At the end of his loan spells at Preston, Van den Berg walked away with 66 outings for the club and newfound versatility, having been used as a right-sided full-back at times.
After signing a new, long-term Liverpool contract, the defender's development would then continue in the Bundesliga with a loan at Schalke 04 for the 2022-23 season.
He had previously progressed from the youth ranks at PEC Zwolle through to the first team and, in September 2018, broke Clarence Seedorf's record to become the youngest ever player to make at least 10 Eredivisie appearances.
Van den Berg had made his senior debut at the age of 16 years and 81 days when he came on as a substitute against FC Groningen in March 2018, and would be in the starting XI for five matches before that season's end.
He established himself further in the Dutch top flight during the 2018-19 campaign, making 15 league appearances, 10 of which were starts.
