ReactionZara Shaw: It's been really tough but that goal makes it all worth it
The 18-year-old returned from the second anterior cruciate ligament injury of her career to send Liverpool to the Adobe Women's FA Cup semi-finals.
Shaw stepped off the bench in extra-time – her first appearance for the Reds senior team in 414 days – to net the only goal of the last-eight tie at The Valley in the 115th minute.
"I don't know what to say if I'm honest!" she told TNT Sports afterwards. "For those who have been close to me over the past few seasons, it's been really, really tough.
"I've gone through things that I didn't think I'd ever have to go through not once but twice. Just thank you to all the girls.
"They put a shift in, by the way, today – Mia [Enderby] walking off with cramp and me having to go on with nothing in my head.
"I'm all over the place right now! Credit to the girls. We couldn't have done it without them and they put a big shift in."
She added: "It's been really tough but that makes it all worth it and that's why you go through the hard times.
"You stick with it in the gym when you don't want to be in there. You're going in first in the building, last out every single day. It is tough, it's really tough.
"As I said just then, that makes it all worth it. The people around me are just the best. I've got the best support network and I couldn't have done it without them."
Shaw took to the field towards the end of the first half of extra-time, having made her comeback from the injury earlier in the week with a 45-minute outing for the U21s.
A frantic scramble off a corner saw the ball hit the Charlton woodwork twice before it was eventually forced over the line by the right boot of Liverpool's No.36.
On the instructions received from head coach Gareth Taylor when coming on, Shaw revealed: "He just said try to keep it tidy, play in the pocket, take your time, keep it clean and go and try to score a goal, which I did.
"It's always messy at the end of games like this. People are just trying to get a touch on it, throw your body on the line and get something. It was messy but it was me that put it in!"
