AcademyYouth League preview: 'It will be a test but we have earned this'

The young Reds travel to Slovakia for the one-off tie, with a sell-out crowd of more than 10,000 expected for the 3.30pm GMT kick-off at Stadion MSK Zilina.

Liverpool reached the first knockout stage by finishing 16th in the league phase, while Zilina qualified via the domestic champions path.

Page told Liverpoolfc.com: "This will be a testing game for us and there's also a bit of travel involved as well, but we are looking forward to it.

"For us, to get to this stage of the tournament, the knockout stages, is a credit to what the lads have done so far.

"We've had a different team quite a few times as well in this competition so I have to say full credit to the lads, who have done very well."

Page believes playing in front of such a large, and partisan, crowd will provide invaluable experience to his players.

He added: "For the U19s to have over 10,000 fans present, that is incredible. So it will be hostile and also a difficult place to go to but we will relish it. We will have them prepared and be ready to go."

Preparations for the Zilina tie included a friendly away at Marseille on the same day the clubs' senior teams met in the Champions League last month.

And this trip arrives with the Reds' U18s and U21s squads each having won all four of their league fixtures so far in 2026.

Page continued: "The boys are in a good place. We had a good test when we played the friendly away in Marseille and from a physicality point of view I think this is what we are going to face in Zilina.

"We had the option to take the friendly against Marseille and we jumped at it because you want to play against opposition like that. They were all six-foot-plus lads, they were very physical and the intensity was incredible.

"It was more like a proper game of football as opposed to just having a training session here and it was very worthwhile.

"We got beat 2-0 but for me it wasn't about the result, it was about exposing some of the younger lads to that level we will need on Tuesday."
