NewsWorld Cup: Florian Wirtz assists for Germany against Ecuador
By Joe Urquhart
The Liverpool No.7 featured for 73 minutes of his country’s 2-1 loss at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Thursday.
Germany - who had already qualified for the next phase as Group E winners - opened the scoring in the second minute via Leroy Sane's low strike, with Wirtz providing a clever pass to find his teammate inside the area.
Ecuador, however, equalised quickly through Nilson Angulo, before Gonzalo Plata’s match-winning strike in the 77th minute provided the difference.
Germany will now move to the knockout stage and play their last-32 tie on Monday in Boston.
