ReactionWhy Harvey Elliott's goal v Luton was that 'extra bit special'
Harvey Elliott admitted his goal to wrap up Liverpool's 4-1 victory against Luton Town on Wednesday night was that 'extra bit special'.
The No.19 converted in the final minute of the 90 at Anfield to complete the scoring in the come-from-behind win in the Premier League.
The strike arrived on what was his 100th appearance for the Reds in all competitions as he became the fourth-youngest player in the club's history to reach that milestone.
Offering his reaction, the 20-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com: "The best possible way and on top of that the three points as well.
"There's no better feeling than scoring a goal [in front of] the Kop but today was that extra bit special on my 100th appearance. It's just been an amazing journey so far and long may it continue.
"It's all down to the gaffer and the coaching staff for putting the trust in me. I'm just very thankful for the opportunities that I've been getting from them and I want to give it my all for them, for the team, for the club as well.
"To reach 100 appearances for my boyhood club, it's amazing but I don't want to stop now. I want to keep going, I want to get 200, 300 in my career here.
"It's a good achievement but after today it's done and I just need to focus on the next game and keep going."
Liverpool were forced to stage a second-half comeback against Luton after Chiedozie Ogbene scored the opener in the 12th minute.
Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo within the space of 125 seconds turned the game around, with Luis Diaz and Elliott then adding to the hosts' lead.
Elliott was pleased with the character and focus the team displayed on the night, particularly with the Carabao Cup final on the horizon.
"Every game from now on is a final to us and we weren't thinking about the weekend," he said. "It was just about getting the job done tonight.
"Whatever happens in the next couple of days, it's what we can think about tomorrow. Tonight was just about getting the job done. Every game is a cup final, we just need to treat it like that.
"Luton are a tough team, a top side with quality and in the first half they showed that and caused us many problems. But I think the boys were resilient, had the desire and hunger in them to keep going, and the scoreline showed that."
Attention can now be turned towards Sunday's showpiece with Chelsea at Wembley and the opportunity to lift the first piece of silverware in the 2023-24 campaign.
Elliott finished: "It's going to be another tough game but what an opportunity to go out and play at Wembley and have the fans behind us at the stadium and all around the world.
"Another great experience for us as a team and the chance for silverware. But we just need to make sure in these next couple of days we're recovered, focused and then we can start building towards the game."
