NewsWhat Liverpool now need to qualify for Champions League last 16
By Chris Shaw
The Reds climbed to fourth in the league-phase standings after winning 3-0 away at Marseille on matchday seven on Wednesday night.
The top eight finishers bypass the knockout round play-off in February and advance directly to March's Round of 16.
A win versus Qarabag at Anfield on January 28 - the final round of games in the league phase - would make certain a top-eight finish for Liverpool.
A draw that night could also be sufficient for Arne Slot's men, dependent on results elsewhere, and likewise in the scenario of a defeat.
The Reds are already assured of at least progression to the play-offs, which will be contested by the sides finishing from ninth to 24th in the league phase.
