FeatureWe Love You Liverpool: Meet Official LFC Supporters Club... Melbourne

The Reds’ fan base is famous for its passion and loyalty, cheering on both the men’s and women’s squads whether on Merseyside or watching from afar.

Our We Love You Liverpool feature aims to bring supporters closer together to learn more about each other wherever they are based around the globe.

Here, we meet OLSC Melbourne...

Tell us about the OLSC…

Our OLSC was formed in 2005 when a group of friends got together to put on a live screening of the Champions League final. The turnout was that good that we decided to make it a regular thing and from there, the Melbourne Liverpool Supporters Association was born.

How special is it to have the supporters club where you are?

Given our time difference and distance from Anfield, it's not always easy to get to games, so it's special to have a gathering place for everyone who wants to watch the games, even if it is in the middle of the night.

It must give you a sense of community and connection to Liverpool and the club itself?

The supporters and members feel connected to the club, whether it be people who live in Melbourne, from around Australia, or the many people who join us on holidays from around the world.

They feel that there is a connection having somewhere that fans gather to watch the games. The connection to the city is strong as we have a lot of expats from the Merseyside area frequent our venue.

What is so special about supporting Liverpool for your members?

Supporting Liverpool is special for everyone in different ways. For some this has been passed down by their parents, and it is a family bond. Supporting Liverpool FC in Melbourne is also special because it connects fans to a global football family while creating a strong local community built around passion, loyalty, and tradition. Whether it’s waking up early to watch matches, gathering with fellow fans at pubs across the city, or sharing unforgettable moments from famous European nights.

Melbourne supporters experience the club’s spirit together despite being thousands of kilometres from Anfield. The city’s love for sport and multicultural football culture make supporting Liverpool feel more than just following a team - it becomes part of your identity and community.

Do you hold meet-ups for games, or any special events throughout the year?

We hold meet-ups for all games that are televised on TV in Australia. We've also put on events when past players are visiting Australia and have also coordinated tours with fan podcasts like The Anfield Wrap.

Has the OLSC ever visited Anfield? If so, what was the experience like?

We've had many members visit Anfield and even a couple of our committee members as well. The experience is always positive despite the result. We always receive great feedback from our members who have attended. The only negative is the distance!

What is your favourite memory together as an OLSC?

Our favourite memory would have to be the 2005 Champions League final. The match kicked off at 4:45am on a Thursday morning in Melbourne and the venue we screened the match was at capacity. Some people had been there all night in order to secure their spot at our first European cup final in decades.

It was jubilation and we had never experienced anything like that in our own city. By 8am when the venue closed we all spilled out onto the street in peak hours as everyone was going to work. We even had some breakfast news outlets wanting to see what all the fuss was about!

Lastly, if anyone else is interested in joining your OLSC, how would they go about doing so?

If anyone would like to join, they can do so by visiting our website lfcmelbourne.com.au.
