Reaction'We got the job done' - Gareth Taylor's verdict on Liverpool 2-0 Leicester
The Reds moved four points clear of the Foxes at the bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League – and up a position, ahead of West Ham United – with the result at St Helens Stadium on Sunday.
Beata Olsson opened the scoring in the 10th minute and after a hard-fought remainder, Ceri Holland sealed three points from the penalty spot near the end.

On the performance…
It was a performance that got us the job done. I thought the one moment of quality was the first goal, it was good from us. We played really bravely under the pressure of Leicester and finished it off nicely from Beata. I think the second half, understandably we dropped our levels a little bit – not necessarily in our endeavour but in our quality on the ball. Missed passes, you could tell our passing was off slightly. But it’s understandable in the nervousness of the game. There were some moments where we had to be brave and stand up. And then when Ceri gets the penalty and finishes that, the game’s done. For us, it’s really pleasing. It’s all about the result today, as much as you want the performance to be good. But in saying that, I felt there were some good spells, just understandably nerves today.
On Liverpool’s defensive strength and solidity…
Yeah, definitely, it’s the bedrock of us over this last period at St Helens. And with the fans behind us, those things are really important. There was one moment at the end where Leicester had an opportunity with an action that we got wrong, but sometimes you ride your luck. Eliminating their threats today was really important because they obviously understand the game and where it’s at as well, and we needed to win.
On the Reds’ unbeaten run at home…
It’s important. Every game is important to try to win, we try to do that in every game this season. We look more capable now, which is impressive. Of course, we were missing some players today, which would help. But nice to see Anna Josendal make some time on the pitch and contribute to the team win.
On being four points clear of the bottom and whether he can start looking up the table…
Absolutely. That’s the message to the players: how high can we climb? We have some games coming up in these last five games where every one of them looks a little bit different and will present itself an opportunity to try to move up the table as best we can.
