In her latest column, Liverpool FC Women interim head coach Amber Whiteley reflects on the Anfield defeat by Everton and previews Saturday's season finale against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

It was frustrating to lose to Everton at Anfield. We did create a lot of chances, which we should have done better from.

I think there were plenty of positives to take from the game in that we created plenty of opportunities on goal, but we needed to be more clinical and defend our own box better.

We gave away a bad goal for the opener and those are the things that we need to cut out of our game quickly, because at 1-0 Everton then had something to protect and they then became a bit lower in their block and harder to break down.

I think at 1-0 we had good momentum in the second half and if we had managed to level up I think we go on to win the game. When you are pushing for an equaliser you are always a bit more vulnerable on transition, as we saw with their second goal.

Credit to Everton for the way they defended and Courtney Brosnan made some excellent saves, but it just wasn't to be our day.

I gave Niamh Fahey some minutes off the bench and it was important to do that for the fans to show their appreciation for everything that she has done for this club, and for her to say her goodbyes on the pitch.

With Brighton beating Arsenal on Monday, it's going to be difficult to finish ahead of them now in fifth spot but we will keep giving it everything we have got right to the end.

We face the champions Chelsea and it's a really important game for us because we know if results don't go our way we could finish as low as ninth place, and that's not where we want to be.

This is a huge game this weekend and we need to do everything that we can to be in the best place possible to face Chelsea.

We know how good a team they are and we will be giving them a guard of honour ahead of the game and show our respect for what they have achieved in the league this season.

I thought there were so many positives to take away from our performance against them in the Adobe Women's FA Cup semi-final and we need to take all the learnings from that game, all the positives, and put them into this game.

We've shown on more than one occasion before that we can go toe to toe with the best teams in this league and we've got to believe we can go to Stamford Bridge and take something from the game.

YNWA,

Amber
