Watch as Liverpool defender Milos Kerkez surprises young LFC Foundation participants at the club's allotment, joining them for a hands-on session to learn more about growing food and supporting biodiversity, in celebration of World Earth Day.

As part of Liverpool FC's ongoing work through The Red Way, children from LFC Foundation programmes spent time at the allotment, learning how food is grown, where it comes from and why sustainable practices matter.

Midway through the session, Kerkez arrived to surprise the group and got straight into the action by helping the children tend to the crops, and learning more about the work that goes on at the allotment and how it supports the club's sustainability strategy.

The session was led by Christine Fawcett, one of the longest-serving members of staff at LFC, who plays a key role in taking care of the allotment, which has become an important part of the club's biodiversity work and is looked after by a small group of dedicated volunteers.

Over time, it has grown into a space used by young people, community groups and staff, offering a chance to learn new skills and spend time outdoors. Produce grown on site – including fruit, vegetables and honey – is shared with community groups and used across club kitchens to feed players and staff.

There are more than 240,000 bees living across three hives, helping to support pollination and the wider ecosystem around the site.

Work like this sits within the LFC's broader sustainability strategy, The Red Way, with biodiversity continuing to be a focus across all areas of the club.

The visit forms part of the club's wider commitment to sustainability, as highlighted in the The Red Way 2024-25 season report, published today. The report showcases continued progress across people, planet and communities.

Looking ahead, food will be a key area of focus for the club as it continues to build on its sustainability work, with the allotment playing an important role. It provides a hands-on way to explore how food is grown, sourced and shared, while supporting more sustainable practices across the club and its communities.
