The 26 nominees for the annual team were announced earlier today, with the Reds and Netherlands centre-back one of seven defenders in the running to feature in the final line-up.

The World11 is decided exclusively by the votes of professional players, with more than 28,000 cast for this edition, which covers performances during the period from August 21, 2023 to July 14, 2024.

The final team will be composed of a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards, plus the outfield player with the next-highest number of votes.

It will be announced on Monday December 9.
