Virgil van Dijk provided his assessment of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion post-match at Amex Stadium.

The Reds fell behind midway through the first half of Sunday’s Premier League clash to Simon Adingra’s effort, but they were ahead at the interval as Mohamed Salah finished off a fine team move and then converted a penalty.

Jürgen Klopp’s men were denied all three points on the south coast, however, as Lewis Dunk touched in from a Brighton free-kick with 12 minutes to go.

Read a summary of Van Dijk’s verdict after the final whistle, speaking to Sky Sports…

On what Liverpool can take from the draw…

Obviously we came here to win, I think we had opportunities to do so as well but in the end a draw after a difficult game, I think. Quite open, both sides, at times. Overall, quite even, but looking at my own team, obviously we had opportunities to try to win it.

On the manner of Brighton’s first goal…

It’s not only [Alexis Mac Allister being tackled], it’s me as well, it’s a risky ball. But obviously we try to play out from the back and unfortunately these things could happen in football and you get punished immediately, it’s the highest level. The way we bounced back was a great reaction and that was very positive.

Mohamed Salah scores brace in Premier League draw at Brighton

Match reportMohamed Salah scores brace in Premier League draw at BrightonMohamed Salah struck a brace as Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday.

On Salah’s value to the team…

Yeah, he is. Obviously it’s always the case, he’s a very important member of the team, on the pitch and off the pitch. Today he showed that as well with the two goals. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get the win, of course.

On what led to Brighton’s second-half equaliser from the Reds’ point of view…

Miscommunication. I think Robbo heard a shout and he thought it was Alisson, it’s a miscommunication and shouldn’t happen. But nobody wants to make mistakes. Unfortunately this was a miscommunication that cost us a goal. But overall I’m still proud of my team and there’s a lot of good things that we have been showing over the last couple of weeks. Now the international break is coming up and we have to get healthy through that, hopefully everyone is successful and then back for a very interesting couple of games.
