“Very special,” was how Dominik Szoboszlai described his sensational strike in Liverpool’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Leicester City.

The Hungary captain helped the Reds book their place in round four with an Anfield comeback on Wednesday night, coming off the bench with the score 1-1.

Cody Gakpo had cancelled out Kasey McAteer’s opener before Szoboszlai launched a vicious drive from outside the box into the top corner at the Kop end.

A minute from full-time, Diogo Jota sealed the victory from close range, with Liverpool subsequently being handed a trip to AFC Bournemouth in the next stage.

Read a summary of Szoboszlai’s post-match reaction with Liverpoolfc.com below…

On another comeback by Liverpool…

To be honest, since I came we started always the same way, 1-0 behind. But every time, each game, we showed a good reaction. It doesn’t matter who is on the pitch or who comes in, we work as a team and at the end always we have the three points or the next round.

On the belief in the team that they will create chances…

Yeah, as I said, it doesn’t matter who is playing, everybody gives his best. Young players, older players with experience help the young guys. We are really a team, a big squad and everybody is ready for work.

On his goal and how highly it ranks in his career so far…

It was very special. I don’t know if it was the best goal, I scored one of my best in the national team and also in Salzburg. But [it was] one of the best for sure.

On his excellent start to life at Liverpool…

I’m just doing my things, working hard and always ready to fight for the team, for the fans, for myself. And as I get many chances, I want to give back.

On the new players settling in, with Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch both starting against Leicester…

They played a really good game. OK, the result in the first half was not what we wanted, but it happens. The most important [thing] is the reaction, how we came out for the second half. We scored a quick goal, Cody, and as you mentioned, Ryan, Endo, [Jarell] Quansah, they played a very good game. That shows that we need everybody in the squad.

On this being a seventh consecutive win in all competitions…

We are taking it game by game, not thinking long term. Of course you don’t want to lose, never, but we have to be realistic. We are looking forward to Tottenham now, to take the three points home, and then the next week.
