Olivia Smith and Canada advanced into the knockout stages of the U20 Women’s World Cup despite defeat by Brazil in the early hours of Saturday.

The Liverpool FC Women attacker featured for her nation before being substituted in minute 72 during the 2-0 loss in Group B of the tournament.

Although beaten on the night, Canada earned passage through into the next stage of the competition in Colombia as a best third-placed team behind Brazil and France.

Canada must now wait to find out who they will face in the Round of 16 as they bid to progress into the latter stages.
