AcademyU18s match report: Liverpool edged out by Newcastle United in Kirkby
Finn Inglethorpe was the first to net in a topsy-turvy U18 Premier League North encounter.
On the half-hour mark, he followed up a Josh Sonni-Lambie shot to score from in close.
Six minutes later, the visitors levelled via Matthew Taylor, who was set up after Alfie Hutchison broke free in the box.
After the half-time interval, the Magpies took the lead almost immediately from the restart.
Alfie Seldon was the goalscorer and Mohamed Waddani the provider from inside the area after he sprinted clear via a long throw.
A counter-attack then led to a third for Newcastle, Waddani again assisting, this time for Kacey Wooster.
Liverpool, however, fought back to level the contest.
Alvin Ayman produced a great run down the left flank to find Joe Bradshaw at the back post.
The Reds then hauled themselves back on terms, Sonni-Lambie releasing substitute Scofield Lonmeni through to score.
But Newcastle were to have the final say of the afternoon three minutes from the end of normal time, which followed Bradshaw striking the bar for the hosts.
The Reds were caught short pushing for a winner as Hutchison and Wooster combined during a swift breakaway, allowing the latter to claim his second goal and the winning effort.
Liverpool U18s: Hall, Esdaille, Ayman, Cisse, Clarke, Upton, Bradshaw, Murray-Holme, Inglethorpe (Lonmeni, 70), Sonni-Lambie, Yeguo (Lee Forrester, 63).
Unused subs: Bernard, Owen, Hickman.
