Watch'Thank you for getting us here' - a new short film from Expedia featuring LFC Women

Nearly one-third of girls who play football quit in their early teens, with access to travel and facilities often a major factor.

No professional player makes it on their own and as part of Expedia’s ‘Nothing beats being there’ campaign, the film celebrates and thanks people who have provided girls with access to football.

Featuring captain Niamh Fahey, Gemma Bonner and Mia Enderby, the trio thank their biggest supporters and detail why that support mattered for their own personal journeys to reach professional football. Manager Matt Beard also explains how football has changed during the last decade for young girls starting out.

Fans can hear through the players’ own stories the barriers they have faced along the way. Through their own experiences, it raises awareness for the issues girls can face accessing football.

Fahey says: “My journey was supported by so many people, from family, friends, coaches. My parents sacrificed a lot for me, especially when it came to lifts to training. It was after school and more than an hour away. My mother would just wait in the car whilst I trained. When I look back, I think what an amazing sacrifice.”

Also featured in the film are young aspiring footballers from LFC Foundation. They were taking part in a special training session where 20 girls got to play on the Anfield pitch.

Throughout the partnership, Expedia has worked closely with LFC to make travel easier for fans to cheer on the Reds home and away.

As LFC’s official travel partner, Expedia has continued to provide free transport to supporters for all of the club’s Barclays Women’s Super League matches on the road this season, a scheme which started in 2022.
