InterviewTeagan Micah on LFC Women v Chelsea, progress and Paris Olympics

Matt Beard’s side host the Londoners at Prenton Park on Wednesday night in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

With three fixtures left in 2023-24, the Reds are three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United in the standings and carry a game in hand.

Micah recorded a clean sheet in Liverpool’s most recent outing away at Bristol City, producing a number of excellent saves in the 1-0 victory last month.

Ahead of the encounter versus Chelsea, read Liverpoolfc.com’s chat with the goalkeeper as she targets a strong end to the campaign...

On an excellent away win at Bristol City…

We were happy with the performance and it was good to walk away with the three points. They are always a tough team to play against and they do give us a hard game. They were battling against relegation at the end of the day, so we knew they were going to come out firing. But to walk away with the three points, it’s what we wanted.

On her return to the starting XI and making some crucial saves…

To keep a clean sheet is what we are always after. We worked together in all those defensive moments because they were peppering us at the end. It was good.

On the test posed by Chelsea…

For us, it’s not necessarily where they are at as a team. We are pushing to get fourth and get as many points as possible in the next run of games. They have had a tough week, going out of the Champions League, but at the end of the day it’s how we perform. We’ve got Chelsea, Manchester United to play and then Leicester City away, so we just want to try to grab as many points as we can.

On how well the team have done this season…

I think we have done well this year and we have done well against some top teams as well. We are growing together as a club and I think it’s a testament to the club. They moved us into the AXA Melwood Training Centre and they are putting more into the women’s side. So it really does show if you put in that effort, we can give back with the results. Hopefully we can just keep going and in future years keep knocking on the door.

On how she would assess her debut season at the club…

Individually it’s been quite tough. I’ve been in and out of the team, so on that side it has been tough. But on the team side I think we’ve done well and I’m just happy for the girls and the club really.

On preparing to represent Australia in the summer Olympics…

I will get a good run of games, hopefully, that will help me. The Olympics in Paris is a massive tournament and it’s probably one of my favourite tournaments to go to, so I’m really looking forward to that.
