Sophie Roman Haug has been named Liverpool FC Women's Standard Chartered Player of the Month for December.

The 24-year-old netted an important equaliser in the Reds' 1-1 draw with Bristol City at Prenton Park in the first outing of the month.

Roman Haug then played her part in brilliant away victories against Everton in the Continental League Cup - where she also scored - and then over Manchester United in the Barclays Women's Super League.

The No.10 received her award at the AXA Melwood Training Centre on Friday after manager Matt Beard gave her the news in a team meeting to rapturous applause from the squad.

"I want to say thank you to the fans for voting for me first of all," she told Liverpoolfc.com. "This means a lot to me and because it's the fans that vote, it means a lot.

"The fans have been incredible since I got here. I'm really honoured that they voted for me and it makes it extra-special, so I'm very grateful.

"December was a good month for us, we had some good games and we finished with that win against Manchester United, which was a nice way to [go] into the Christmas break."

After the win over United, manager Beard praised the Norway international for her unselfish work for the team and how it contributed to Liverpool taking all three points.

"It was an incredible game and it was an important win for us," added Roman Haug. "I was really proud of the whole team and we showed what we are made of and what we want to build on.

"It's an incredible team and with a great lot of potential, so I'm really happy to be here and can't wait for the rest of the season."

The Reds are now building up to their first game of 2024, which comes on Sunday January 14 when they face Bristol City at Ashton Gate in the Adobe Women's FA Cup fourth round (kick-off 1pm GMT).

"We are looking forward to getting out on the pitch again and it will be a fun game," Roman Haug said.

"We played Bristol City in December and it was a tough game, but we are looking forward to it and we will be ready. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season and playing lots of games alongside these girls."

Why you voted for Roman Haug

Ashton-Lee Speckman: Put in good performances and she is finding her rhythm in terms of goalscoring. She works so hard for the team and creates a lot as well.

Stephen Nelson: Top-notch effort in all three games, along with two important goals.

Ariadna: Finally found "her place" in the team and it showed in goals, assists and contributions. Drives opponents mad.

Kerris Mason: Her work effort this month has been ridiculous. She has really settled into the team and what it means to be a Liverpool player. Star player and can't wait to see more of her in the New Year!

Sam: Goalscoring machine… helped us pick up our first win over Everton in years and saved us vs Bristol.
