Grace Fisk feels Liverpool FC Women can build on their positive performance in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with London City Lionesses.

The Reds returned after the winter break and were held to a goalless stalemate by the visitors at St Helens Stadium.

The result means that Gareth Taylor’s side are still awaiting their first Barclays Women’s Super League victory of the season, though they did record a maiden clean sheet of the top-flight campaign and were boosted by debuts for January signings Alice Bergstrom and Jennifer Falk.

Captain Fisk impressed having been restored to the starting line-up after a five-game absence due to injury and said: “I think it was a tough game back. Obviously we’ve had a little break and I think for large parts of the game, we were the better team – especially in the first half.

“We were disappointed to go in at half-time at 0-0 and we knew they would come back out in the second half fighting stronger than what they did, so they had a bit of momentum in the second half so at the end a draw was probably fair.

“I think it’s the first clean sheet of the season as well, which is something we’ve been struggling with, so it’s something to build on and we’ll definitely look to kick on.”

Liverpool’s winless run in the WSL this term now stands at 12 matches but Fisk believes their wait for a victory will end sooner rather than later.

She added: “Obviously it’s something that we’re aware of. I think there’s been a lot of games where we’ve felt that we’ve actually had good performances, it’s just the final piece [that is missing].

“Like I say, that was our first clean sheet and we feel like between both boxes we are pretty solid, but we just know what’s missing at the moment is goals. We’re working really hard, we’ve obviously strengthened in the window so we’ll only build from now and I’m totally confident it will come.”

Goalkeeper Falk marked her Reds bow with a clean sheet, while Bergstrom also started.

Fisk continued: “Falky is obviously a really experienced ‘keeper, which I think is what we have been lacking – experience and experienced winners. We’re obviously quite a young team and I’m leading, but I’ve never won anything in my career in that sense so we needed experience which Falky will give us.

“And Alice as well, you can see she is a really direct player, which is again what we have been lacking – direct, people who can create something out of nothing.

“So they’ve been really good and they’ve mixed into the group really well, so we’re excited for them to see how they kick on.”
