NewsRyan Gravenberch on Wolves goal, Frimpong return and taking momentum into 2026
Ryan Gravenberch wants Liverpool to build on the momentum of three Premier League victories on the bounce as they head into 2026.
The midfielder opened the scoring for Arne Slot's side in a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon at Anfield.
Florian Wirtz also netted in a quickfire Reds double before half-time, while Santiago Bueno was on target for the visitors in what would prove to be a consolation effort.
For Liverpool, the win followed victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur in the top flight and extended their current unbeaten run to seven matches.
Gravenberch spoke to Liverpoolfc.com after the defeat of Wolves, with a home clash versus Leeds United next up on New Year's Day. Read the Q&A below…
On every Premier League game being a tough test...
I think in the first half we played really good. We created good chances and scored two goals. Then what you see in the second half, we've conceded again at a set-piece and then they know they can maybe score the next one and they come. But I think at the end we fight and we showed character.
On digging deep to clinch three points...
Of course. As always, we stick together. It's just run, run and trying to win your duels and I think at the end we did that.
On playing alongside Curtis Jones deeper in midfield...
I know Curtis. He loves to take the ball and dribble from the back. He's really comfortable and he almost never loses the ball. It's really nice to play with him and it gives you more confidence to bring the ball forward.
On his opening goal against Wolves...
I think always when you score you have a really good feeling. It was a really nice assist from Jeremie [Frimpong] as well and I saw the gap on the right side and it went nicely.
On Frimpong's performance overall...
I'm happy that he is back. We know what we have with Jeremie. I'm happy that he could do something for the team.
On his celebration honouring Diogo Jota on an emotional day...
Of course. He played for us and also for Wolves. We are the two teams he played for in England. It was nice as well to have his kids as mascots. We wanted to give him something back.
On the second-half performance and having to battle to victory...
I think we can do a bit better in the second half. Of course we play a lot of games and players get tired, but I think if you get tired you have to keep the ball and not go forward always. I think we could do better and just keep the ball playing and let them run and they will get tired from that. Then it's finding the right moment. We didn't do it but I think we have to keep working on that.
On three wins from three in the Premier League...
Of course. We always try to win and you see as well that hopefully we get momentum from now on. We just [need to] keep going and going. I'm really happy with the three points.
