The Reds have been chasing the 19-year-old this summer, seeing him as a potential long-term replacement for Fabinho who recently left to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.
Three bids were lodged from Anfield - first totalling £38m, then £42m and this week £46m. But all were rejected by Southampton who are said to be holding out for £50m.
