Liverpool are prepared to test the resolve of Southampton as they ramp up their efforts to sign Romeo Lavia.

The Reds have long established 19-year-old Lavia as a chief midfield target as Jürgen Klopp looks to further bolster his engine room resources following the earlier arrival of £95million duo Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Southampton have already rejected an offer of £34m plus £4m in add-ons for the player, who moved to the south coast last summer from Manchester City for an initial £10.5m rising to £14m.
