Jürgen Klopp has praised the performance of Caoimhin Kelleher in Sunday's 4-3 win over Fulham at Anfield – and feels the goalkeeper can consider himself unfortunate with the visitors' first two strikes.

The 25-year-old notched his first Premier League appearance of the season between the sticks, deputising for the injured Alisson Becker, having previously been utilised in the Carabao Cup and Europa League this term.

Kelleher is likely to continue in goal for Liverpool's next assignment – a trip to Sheffield United on Wednesday evening – and Klopp told his pre-match press conference: "I really think he played a really good game [against Fulham].

"In possession he was good, especially with his feet, but then we conceded two goals [in the first half].

LFC injury update: Joel Matip, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota

NewsLFC injury update: Joel Matip, Alisson Becker and Diogo JotaLiverpool are still waiting to discover the full extent of the injury sustained by Joel Matip during Sunday’s Premier League win over Fulham.

"One, the Harry Wilson goal, is an unlucky one as a goalie. If the ball goes through the legs, it goes through the legs and that happens. The second one, our goalie coaches and Ali [Alisson] especially explained to me: we are front-footed goalkeepers, they told me.

"I know that and in this moment Caoimhin steps into the situation. If Tete tries to control the ball, Caoimhin is there, but he doesn't. He takes the first touch and then the ball passes him a little bit.

"These kind of things happen, it has nothing to do with quality – it's a philosophy thing. He could have saved that ball as well with exactly the same movement, just a little bit more luck. [So] just keep going, do the same things.

"We can expect good set-pieces against Sheffield United; we can expect that maybe the better we press the more long balls they will have to play. If they are really long, or set-pieces and wide free-kicks, we need to him to be there offensively and get off his line.

"Besides that, absolutely fine with everything."
