Matt Beard's side achieved promotion to the Barclays Women's Super League when they won the FA Women's Championship title in 2021-22.

After successive 3-3 draws in the top flight away to Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading, the Reds bounced back to winning ways on Sunday when they earned a 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the group stage of the Continental League Cup.

LFCTV's Becky Davis was joined in the studio by The Athletic's Caoimhe O'Neill, Lauren Black from Redmen TV Women's podcast and former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock, who also covers women's football as a pundit with the BBC.

Reflecting on the form of Lawley, Black said: "Mel has been brilliant for us so far this season and last season as well – probably her best season for the club.

"She drives at defenders, tries to make things happen and it's paying off for us."

The trio also analysed the goal threat of Stengel, who is the Reds' top scorer in the campaign so far.

O'Neill said: "To be without Leanne Kiernan was such a blow to Liverpool in that win over Chelsea.

"That meant Katie has had to dig in and pick up a lot of slack in terms of scoring goals, and she has obviously done that.

"When you think about Katie, she was such an important signing for Liverpool in terms of the goals she scored as well in getting the club out of the Championship.

"She was there in a lot of vital moments for Liverpool to ensure they got promoted to the WSL. And again this season she is doing an incredible job, an important job."
