ExplainedPremier League title permutations on the final day

A point separates leaders Manchester City and Liverpool with one more round of fixtures remaining in the top flight.

All of Sunday’s matches will kick off at the same time – 4pm BST – with City and Liverpool both at home, against Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.

The permutations in the battle for the championship are relatively straightforward.

A win for City versus Villa would guarantee Pep Guardiola’s team the title, no matter the result for the Reds at Anfield.

However, if City draw or are beaten by Steven Gerrard’s side, the door would be open for Liverpool to snatch top spot on the final day.

If City do drop points, the Reds can overtake them with a victory of any kind against Wolves.

Due to City’s superior goal difference, a draw would only be sufficient for Liverpool to claim the title if Guardiola’s team were to suffer a heavy defeat.

If the Reds are beaten against Wolves, the title will be won by City.
