MatchThe opposition lowdown: West Ham United

Season so far

The Hammers sit in the Premier League relegation zone in 18th place as they make the journey to Anfield.

With six wins and seven draws from their 27 matches this term, they have accumulated 25 points – two away from safety currently.

Almost half of those points (11) have been claimed in their past six top-flight games, though, including a goalless draw at home to AFC Bournemouth last time out.

Key players

Jarrod Bowen is West Ham’s leading scorer in the Premier League this season with eight strikes.

Callum Wilson has hit the net five times, while Lucas Paqueta – who departed the club in January – and Crysencio Summerville have each contributed four goals.

El Hadji Malick Diouf has been their primary creator in the division with four assists to date.

Ahead of this weekend, Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola had made the fourth-highest number of saves in the Premier League in 2025-26 on 77, although Mads Hermansen has been preferred for the past three games.

Team news

West Ham forward Pablo Felipe remains unavailable for this game as he recovers from a calf injury.

The visitors will also be without the suspended Freddie Potts and Lukasz Fabianski is sidelined long term.

“[Elsewhere in the squad] there are always things to assess,” said head coach Nuno on Thursday. “We have another training session tomorrow and then we will travel.”

Previous meeting

Liverpool were 2-0 winners when the sides clashed at London Stadium in November.

A clinical Alexander Isak finish put the Reds in front on the hour mark and the three points were secured when Cody Gakpo netted in stoppage time.

What they said

Nuno

“Anfield is always a tough place to go, no matter the conditions or what position Liverpool are in, and it’s going to be a big challenge for us. We’re going to face a fantastic team, full of talented players, and that can only bring the best out of us.

“That is our major motivation – we know we are chasing survival, and we’re ready for the fight.

“It’s a different game from when we played them earlier in the season. It’s a different moment in the season, and different players are playing. We’re playing them away, so it’s all new, and new questions require new answers. We’re ready to play again.”
