MatchThe opposition lowdown: Leeds United
Season so far
Leeds host the Reds on the back of their fourth win of the Premier League season in midweek.
Daniel Farke's side defeated Chelsea 3-1 at Elland Road, with Jaka Bijol, Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the scoresheet.
Prior to that, they were beaten 3-2 on the road at Manchester City by a stoppage-time strike having equalised from two goals down.
Overall, the Yorkshire club have totalled 14 points from 14 games in the top flight so far.
Key players
Lukas Nmecha is Leeds' leading scorer in the Premier League this term with four goals, while Calvert-Lewin has three.
Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff have provided two assists apiece to top that chart, meanwhile.
Joe Rodon has had the most touches of any player in Farke's squad: 900.
Team news
For the hosts, Daniel James and Longstaff are definitely ruled out due to injury.
At his pre-match press conference, Farke also revealed Nmecha and Calvert-Lewin need to be assessed following the victory versus Chelsea.
"We need during this period the whole squad," said Farke. "Especially in a week when you have three games against opponents where you always have to go over the limit.
"In these types of games, we have to go over the limit in order to be competitive."
Previous meetings
The teams last locked horns in April 2023 at Elland Road, with Liverpool winning 6-1 on that night.
In the reverse encounter at Anfield earlier that season, Leeds had claimed a 2-1 victory.
What they said
Leeds manager Farke
"We face a world-class side with world-class players who have done exceptionally well over the course of the last 18 months. I can mention also challenges for this season, also very sad moments. Sometimes it's not easy for a group. But I have no doubt that we have to be, like in the last two games against also top-class sides - Man City, Chelsea - back at our very, very best. And also we need Elland Road in full voice and also at their very, very best to give ourselves a chance to make a tight game out of this and then also hopefully to get a good result out of it. A tough week for us but we are in a good mood and will also be prepared."
Pre-match stats
- Leeds have won just one of their last 16 Premier League games against the reigning champions (four draws, 11 defeats), 3-2 at Arsenal in May 2003.
- After goals against Manchester City and Chelsea, Calvert-Lewin is looking to score in three consecutive top-flight appearances for the first time since August 2021.
- Eleven of Leeds' 16 league goals this season have come during the first half, including five in the opening 15 minutes.
