MatchThe opposition lowdown: Brentford

Recent form

With one match remaining in 2025-26, the Bees have 52 points and sit ninth in the table.

They twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace on home soil in their last outing.

That was a sixth draw in Brentford’s past nine top-flight games, a run that has included one win and two defeats.

Key players

Only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (27) has scored more than Brentford’s Igor Thiago (22) across the whole Premier League so far this season.

By scoring both equalisers for Andrews’ charges versus Palace, Dango Ouattara took his tally to seven – joint-second-best for the club alongside Kevin Schade.

Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who moved to the Bees from the Reds last summer, has recorded 103 saves this term, which is the fourth-highest figure in the division.

Familiar faces

Kelleher is one of four former Liverpool men in the current Brentford squad, alongside Fabio Carvalho, Jordan Henderson and Sepp van den Berg.

Previous meeting

Brentford were 3-2 winners when the teams clashed in the reverse fixture at Gtech Community Stadium last October.

During the first half, Milos Kerkez struck in reply to goals from Ouattara and Schade, but a Thiago penalty on the hour mark restored the hosts’ cushion.

Mohamed Salah lashed in a clinical effort late on to reduce the deficit.

Team news

Carvalho and Antoni Milambo are long-term absentees with anterior cruciate ligament injuries, while Rico Henry has been ruled out of the visit to Merseyside.

What they said

Andrews, Brentford head coach

“There will be a bit of emotion involved. Some of Liverpool’s players will be playing their last game and we’ve got players going back there. We need to maintain what we’re going to do. We have to perform well and we have to really take care of their threats. When they click, they’re very good. They’ve got some highly talented players.

“It’s going to be really difficult, so we have to stay focused, regardless of what’s going on around us. We just need to focus on ourselves. We’ll go there with the aim of winning the game. That won’t be easy and we’ll have to play very well.”

Pre-match stats

  • Between 1936 and 1937, Brentford were unbeaten in their first three away league games against Liverpool (won one, drew two). Since then, they have lost each of their last six trips to Anfield without scoring a single goal.
  • The Bees have won their final game in just one of their four previous Premier League campaigns (drew one, lost two), beating Manchester City 1-0 in 2022-23.
  • Thiago has scored 41 per cent of Brentford’s Premier League goals this season (22/54), currently the highest share by a player in a single campaign since Harry Kane in 2022-23 (43 per cent for Tottenham Hotspur – 30/70).
