NewsOlivia Smith wins LFC Women Player of the Month award for January

The summer arrival from Sporting CP wins the prize for the third time during her debut season with the Reds.

Smith was a starter in all three of the team's matches in January and played a key role in securing two victories.

After collecting the award at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, the 20-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's amazing. It's an honour to receive these awards and obviously it wouldn't be possible without the team.

"Overall, the month was amazing and I think it's just a great start [to] the year."

On her swift adaptation at the club, she said: "Definitely at first it was a bit difficult, just a new environment, new people.

"But as the year goes on, everyone is so inviting and homey that I think I've settled in pretty well."

The Canadian opened the scoring in the 2-1 home victory over Brighton & Hove Albion with a brilliant individual effort that was later nominated for Barclays Women's Super League Goal of the Month.

After netting again at Leicester City, she then delivered an exquisite assist for Leanne Kiernan away at West Ham United to help Matt Beard's side advance in the Adobe Women's FA Cup.

Smith continued: "It was a great feeling [scoring against Brighton] and I think it was not only important for me but also the team just to get started on the right foot."

To date, the No.11 has found the back of the net five times in her 16 appearances for Liverpool.

Asked about her personal aims for the rest of the campaign, she replied: "I think just contributing to the team as much as possible and obviously just getting wins throughout the year."
