LFC WomenMiri Taylor: I set high standards for myself - I want to help this team
Miri Taylor is fully focused on doing all she can to help Liverpool FC Women achieve success in the forthcoming 2023-24 campaign.
The 23-year-old arrived at the club in January after a spell in the USA with National Women’s Soccer League side Angel City.
After an initial settling-in process, the Kent-born midfielder is determined to repay the faith shown in her by manager Matt Beard this term.
Taylor and her teammates were in training at Melwood for the first time on Tuesday as pre-season continues.
The Reds face Manchester United Women in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday.

On the first day at Melwood…
Coming here to Melwood, it’s got a lot of history and a great tradition of Liverpool Football Club, so just walking in here… and the changing rooms are absolutely gorgeous! It just feels like home. The pitches are gorgeous, so we couldn’t ask for more.
On standards being raised on the training pitch…
Yes, definitely. We’ve always been a very together group and a very happy and modest one, but playing on pitches like that is only going to improve performances and just the joy of it. We are happy to be here.
On the younger players also getting to experience Melwood…
To have the academy girls here as well, it’s really good. It’s a stepping stone for them, so they know that it’s very achievable and very reachable and we are just in the changing room next to them. But essentially it is just our little place as well and I think that is very aspirational for women’s football as well, knowing this is setting a standard now for people to have their own facilities.

We’ve only got a couple of weeks left until the season starts, so these challenging games we are having against Manchester City and Manchester United are a massive benefit for us. We do want to challenge these teams and we want to categorise ourselves at the higher end of the table. I feel you are only going to get better when you play the better teams.
On what targets she has set herself ahead of the new campaign…
I’m quite hard on myself and I do want to play a lot more this season. I want to contribute for the team and I just want to show the fans, the players, all the staff who have helped me what I can do. I do set a high standard and I really want to lift this team in any way I can. I played well in the pre-season tournament in Toulouse and I want to keep up that form.
On the feel-good factor around the club…
I just feel the players that we have brought in and the collective feel in the group as a whole, we have got some unbelievable players who are only going to take Liverpool to the next level.
