NewsMilos Kerkez on LFC responsibility, 'legend' Robertson and Salah thanks

Recruited from AFC Bournemouth last summer, the left-back has made 44 appearances during his debut campaign with the Reds so far, including 36 starts.

With four games left to play in 2025-26, Arne Slot’s side are fourth in the Premier League and seeking to secure Champions League qualification for next term.

“I think in general, for me it has been a growing season, learning a lot of new things and adapting,” Kerkez reflected in an interview with ESPN.

“Maybe the first two or three months were a bit tougher in terms of playing style and everything that was new to me, playing a lot of games and I needed to adapt also my legs for it, to be honest, and physical stuff.

“But after that, when you take some time and then adapt, it gets better and better always. I’m happy now that I’ve found my place more and I can play more consistently – and consistent performances also.

“And I think in terms of the team, also it has been a growing season. Every new player that came in, you need some time to adapt and to get to know each other better, on the pitch and off the pitch.

“So, I think it has been a growing season. The future is bright for this team, for sure.”

The No.6 continued: “Always I want [the fans] to remember I gave 110 per cent whenever I played.

“I really start to understand what it means to play for this club, the responsibility to wear the shirt, the badge. I’m enjoying it a lot. I want always to give 110 per cent and that the fans remember that.”

Meanwhile, Kerkez underscored his appreciation and respect for fellow Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.

The latter will bring a close to his remarkable Reds career at the end of this season, having lifted a host of major honours – including the Champions League and two Premier League titles – across a nine-year spell.

Kerkez has been competing with, but also learning plenty from, Robertson throughout the campaign.

He said: “He really is a legend. Best player [Premier League left-back], I said it [before] and I also believe that.

“Because of what a player he is, how much energy he has, how much he is running and assisting and everything. It’s really unbelievable. He’s a really big player and did a lot of stuff for the club.

“At the end of the day, we had to compete this season for playing minutes and everything, but it’s not bad blood.

“I’m younger, I came in, he also took me under [his wing], helped me a lot, gave me advice along the way. It’s good. You see these players, you want to learn from them. When it’s time to succeed them, you have to be there.

“I know it’s a big thing, he gave a lot to the club. I know I have big shoes to fill for the future, that’s for sure – and I’m going to give my best.”

Mohamed Salah is set to bid farewell to Liverpool this summer too, of course, following a record-breaking, goal-filled and trophy-laden era on Merseyside.

Kerkez has developed a friendship with the Egyptian in their single year as teammates – and explained the impact Salah has had on him.

“When he came [to Liverpool in 2017], I think I was living in Austria. I was really young, watching and following,” he said.

“About that time I started to watch Liverpool a lot, and now I’m here. He always said he connected really well with Balkan guys that were here from that region!

“We are close – me, him and Dom [Szoboszlai]. He accepted me really well, like everyone did, but he took me more under the wing and helped me out in many ways. Also hanging out and doing stuff.

“I’m really thankful to him for that. It’s going to be one month more and for sure I’m going to miss him a lot.”
