Neil Mellor highlighted the 'outstanding' display of Trent Alexander-Arnold and key blocks from Joel Matip during Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday.

During his regular post-match Review Show, which is now available to watch on LFCTV GO, the former striker analysed how the Reds came back from a goal down to gain a valuable point at Etihad Stadium.

"That was a decent point in the end, especially after another 12.30pm kick-off after the international break," said Mellor.

"There is an impressive mentality in the group to have shown the fight to get so many points from a losing position.

"What a goal it was from Trent! We all enjoyed that, didn't we? And we enjoyed celebrating this one.

"Just before that, I've counted it and it's 26 seconds from when Alisson denied Haaland to stop City going 2-0 up. We turned defence into attack very quickly and got the equaliser.

"Trent was outstanding, he really was. He sees the picture – 14 passes in the final third. A really creative player for Liverpool."

Mellor also offered praise to Matip, who had an impressive display at the back in his 200th appearance for the club.

"He was superb, taking up really good defensive positions," Mellor continued.

"The block in the 95th minute stopped a certain goal – that is a goal-saving block. Absolutely outstanding [from] Matip."
