Cody Gakpo will be assessed to determine if he is available for Liverpool's Merseyside derby clash with Everton at Anfield on Saturday.

The forward has returned to training this week after overcoming the injury he sustained in the fixture at Tottenham Hotspur last month.

The Reds will, however, need to make at least one change to the line-up that drew with Brighton & Hove Albion prior to the international break.

Andy Robertson is set to have surgery on the shoulder he injured when playing for Scotland last week and is facing a lengthy period on the sidelines.

Offering an update on the left-back, Jürgen Klopp told reporters on Friday: "I think the decision we go towards [is] surgery.

"There was a little chance that he could try without. But after talking to pretty much all experts, it looks like surgery will be the best thing, especially in the long term, definitely. And that means he is out for a while.

"Don't know exactly how long but shoulder surgery is not an easy one."

On Gakpo, the Liverpool manager said: "Cody trained once with the team, so we have to see how that goes for tomorrow."

Curtis Jones is unavailable as he continues a domestic suspension but Diogo Jota can be selected for the 12.30pm BST kick-off having served his one-match ban before the break.

Ben Doak picked up a muscle problem while representing Scotland U21s and will not be fit enough, while Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Conor Bradley also remain out. Luke Chambers is back training after a ligament issue.

The visitors, meanwhile, have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the fixture.

Seamus Coleman has recently returned to training for the Blues but will not be available, while Idrissa Gana Gueye is set to be fit and ready for selection.

Long-term absentees Andre Gomes (calf) and Dele Alli (groin) remain sidelined.

"He had a knock unfortunately that needed settling down," Everton boss Sean Dyche said of Gueye's fitness. "Virtually everyone [is fit] apart from the longer term; Dele Alli and Andre.

"Seamus is on the grass for the first time with us, but he's had one day so he needs time obviously after a long period out with us.

"A lot of the players have come back fit and well, which we're pleased about on the international side of things, and the other group have worked hard in the meantime."
