And they followed up with another victory in game two, Cody Gakpo’s second-half double deciding the contest after an earlier Mohamed Salah strike.

Along the way, home supporters got a first glimpse at Anfield of the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz.
