NewsLiverpool U13s toast Virgil's Legacy Trophy success at Anfield
The young squad were the winners of an inaugural tournament organised by senior Reds captain Virgil van Dijk in the Netherlands last weekend.
Played in Tilburg in association with Van Dijk’s former youth club Willem II, there were 16 teams competing across two days.
Mike Yates’ Liverpool group won all three games in the opening stage, chalking up victories over Willem II, Bayer Leverkusen and Paris Saint-Germain.
A 5-2 defeat of Manchester City in the last four carried them through to the final, where they were 2-1 winners against Feyenoord.
To acknowledge their success, Van Dijk invited the squad to the Reds’ Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid and they took to the pitch at half-time to parade their trophy in front of a capacity Anfield crowd.
