Liverpool have made a €40m (£34m) offer for Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez with the Spanish champions holding out for €50m (£43m).

Jurgen Klopp is after a midfielder this summer following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, who left the club at the end of his contract in July to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The Premier League side made an opening offer for Saul according to Mundo Deportivo but will have to increase their offer if they are to land the Spain international.
