Germany international Wirtz has long been expected to move to Bundesliga winners Bayern were he to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, but Liverpool's interest has now turned his head.
The Athletic report that Wirtz would now favour a switch to Anfield, but a deal is not a formality due to the vast transfer fee involved for one of world football's premier young attacking playmakers.
Wirtz, 22, has paid a visit to the north west of England to look at potential houses to live in, and should he join Liverpool then he would again become a team-mate of his Leverkusen colleague Jeremie Frimpong, who is poised to complete his own transfer to the Reds in the coming days.
