NewsLiverpool FC Women set to compete in revamped Subway Players Cup

Previously known as the Women’s League Cup, a new format for the competition – involving a league phase and a knockout phase – was announced today.

Participating will be the 23 teams from the Barclays Women’s Super League and WSL2 who are not in the Women’s Champions League.

In the first stage, each club will have six regionalised fixtures, playing three at home and three away between September 23/24 and December 16/17.

The Reds’ matches are all set to be scheduled in midweek.

Sides will be ranked in a single league table and the top eight finishers advance to the next phase.

Knockout ties will be one leg, with teams seeded based on their final position in the league phase.

The quarter-finals are slated for January, followed by semi-finals in February and then the final in March.

Liverpool’s opponents in the league phase will be revealed on August 6.
