NewsLiverpool FC holds community consultation event at Melwood
As announced earlier this summer, Liverpool FC is once again the proud owner of Melwood, which will be home to Liverpool FC Women’s senior team and Professional Game Academy.
On Tuesday August 22, we invited local residents into Melwood for an open community consultation event to view the club’s proposed plans for the site.
We made the decision to acquire Melwood to provide a permanent elite training facility for our women’s senior team and academy in line with the club’s strategy to continue to develop our women’s team.
As well as being home to our women’s team, who will move in ahead of the 2023-24 season, the facility will also be used by LFC Foundation as well as the continued use by the Fowler Academy.
LFC Foundation will provide a range of community work from Melwood, including football and sports camps during half-term holidays, walking football for older adults, their employability programme delivery and much more. There will also be local community visits, events and open days held at the facility.
As part of the return to Melwood, we will be submitting a planning application to change the use classification of the site from a single-use elite sports training facility to a mixed-use sports training facility and education academy, which includes the ongoing use by Fowler Academy.
We are also proposing to provide occasional matchday hospitality from the site utilising the existing restaurant space within the building and providing transport from and to Anfield for approximately 60 guests.
The key changes as part of this application include a dedicated pedestrian entrance to the building for Fowler Academy within the site (please note, this is not a new entrance for vehicles), an external cabin for additional space and a proposal to reinstate floodlights to the two pitches on which they were previously installed.
So far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we are delighted that local residents and our supporters share the excitement in returning to Melwood and the opportunities it provides for our women’s team.
If any local residents who were unable to attend the event wish to have access to the full presentation that was shared, you can request it via this form. Please note, feedback will be required by 12pm BST on September 6 for those wishing to have their feedback included in the application process.
