By Liverpool FC
Founder John Houlding received the below certificate from the Board of Trade on June 3, 1892 to formally bring the club into existence.
Houlding and his associates had started the process of creating a new club in March of that year when they split from Everton FC; a development that resulted in no team calling Anfield home.
William E. Barclay is credited with coming up with the name Liverpool Football Club and he and Houlding agreed on a mission statement: “That the club be called Liverpool Football Club and shall play under the Rules of the Football Association.”
Then, on June 3, Houlding was informed that Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Company Limited had been granted official recognition and Liverpool FC was born.
