ClubLiverpool FC celebrates 130th birthday
Liverpool Football Club today celebrates its 130th birthday.
On this day in 1892, the club's founder, John Houlding, received the following certificate from the Board of Trade, which ratified the existence of his newly formed team to play at Anfield.
Moves to create Liverpool FC had, in fact, started in March 1892 when Houlding and his close associates split from Everton FC after an acrimonious dispute, launching a new club that would make Anfield its home.
A mission statement was agreed upon: "That the club be called Liverpool Football Club and shall play under the Rules of the Football Association."
After a three-month wait, Houlding and his friends were informed Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Company Limited was officially recognised.
It was the birth of English football's most successful club.
A total of 50 major honours have been secured by the men's team in the 130 years since, with two added by Jürgen Klopp's side in the past 12 months – the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup.
A number of activities will be taking place across the month to mark the 130-year celebrations.
There will be a countdown, throughout June, of the club's 130 greatest goals – chosen and ranked in terms of their quality, importance, iconic status and lasting legacy.
The top 10 strikes in Reds history will then be decided by a fan poll.
Stadium Tours are proud to be offering fans the opportunity to join the Anfield Origins Tour for a limited period from June 1 to 23 (excluding concert days).
Visitors will have the chance to explore and experience 130 years of hidden history around Anfield. Book your place on these limited tours here.
The club's community programme, Red Neighbours, has also devised a series of 130-themed physical activity plans that will be rolled out across their regular exercise programmes in the communities of Anfield and Kirkby.
