The Reds were paired with Durham, Sheffield United and Sunderland in Group B of the northern section during Thursday morning's draw.
The competition is scheduled to get under way on September 24/25, and the pool phase is set to be completed on November 22/23.
Confirmed fixture details will be announced on Liverpoolfc.com in due course.
