ClubLFC welcomes communities to Anfield for special Hanukkah event

Supported by the Merseyside Jewish Representative Council and Rabbi Marc Levene of Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue, the event included educational messages on the meaning of Hanukkah, with opportunities for guests to connect and pay tribute to the victims of the recent Bondi Beach attack in Sydney.

A blessing ceremony and the lighting of the menorah formed key moments of the event followed by a 'Faith in Football' panel discussion, where Rishi Jain, director of impact at LFC, and Rabbi Albert Chait, senior Rabbi to the United Hebrew Congregation in Leeds, explored the role of faith, representation and community within football.

Speaking at the event, Jain said: "It was a privilege to welcome members of the Jewish community to Anfield for our first ever Hanukkah event. We already recognised that this was important to the community, but in light of the tragic incident in Australia last weekend, which has deeply impacted people around the world, coming together in this way felt even more significant.

"Through Red Together, we are committed to creating inclusive spaces that reflect and respect the traditions of all faiths, and to standing alongside the diverse communities within our supporter base at times when solidarity and unity matter most."

As part of Red Together – the club's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion – the celebration sits alongside other interfaith events hosted by the club, including a Diwali celebration last month and iftar gatherings during Ramadan.
