ClubLFC supports Safer Internet Day 2022 with virtual event

This event will bring together students from across the UK to learn more about safer internet use from Liverpool FC and professionals from the UK Safer Internet Centre.

Taking place on Tuesday February 8, the event will be streamed live from 2pm GMT on the UK Safer Internet Centre’s YouTube channel.

Aimed primarily at schoolchildren, the virtual event is free to join and will have sections for primary and secondary schools.

This year, the theme is ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’ and the sessions will include interaction from the UK Safer Internet Centre team, as well as exploring how children and young people can better protect themselves online.

There will also be special guest appearances from LFC, including players from the men’s and Women’s teams, the Academy and mascot Mighty Red.

As well as the event, those who are watching will be able to win some special prizes from LFC.

Forbes Duff, senior manager, CSR at Liverpool FC, said: “We have been working together with UK Safer Internet Centre for seven years now, providing engaging events for children and young people on the importance of staying safe and happy online.

“Highlighting the ever-present risks of the internet alongside its benefits is so important, especially in today’s technological world when young people spend long periods of time online for education and entertainment.

“This is the second year our joint event has been delivered virtually, and we are hoping it will be as successful as last year, which engaged with more than 6,000 attendees.”

“We can’t wait to celebrate the day with Liverpool and explore our themes around respect and relationships online, particularly when playing games online or using interactive services. With Liverpool FC, we have the power to engage young people everywhere and this will really help as we look to support young people when they are playing online.”

The UK Safer Internet Centre has provided those who are celebrating Safer Internet Day with a range of helpful resources and activities available to teachers, parents, and young people. These include education packs, Safer Internet Day films, as well as social media packs. Schools and organisations can also register their support here.
