WatchLFC stars surprise local pupils to discuss coral conservation for World Oceans Day
As part of AXA’s collaboration with the club’s sustainability strategy, The Red Way, its latest campaign, ‘Reds for Red’, spotlights the importance of protecting coral reefs and ocean ecosystems.
Reds stars Alexander Isak, Curtis Jones, Sam Kerr and Beata Olsson surprised young people during a workshop delivered in collaboration with Tara Ocean Foundation.

As part of the campaign, a coral installation displayed at Anfield brought this to life, showcasing the four stages of coral reef health – from thriving, vibrant coral to bleached and dying ecosystems – and providing a visual representation of the challenges facing our oceans.
Using Liverpool FC’s iconic red identity, it draws a powerful parallel with our oceans, where the loss of red serves as a clear warning sign.
As coral reefs come under increasing pressure from warming seas, pollution and other human impacts, they lose their vibrant colour and begin to bleach, putting at risk the ecosystems that sustain marine life and protect coastlines.
Rishi Jain, director of impact at LFC, said: “Raising awareness across all areas of sustainability remains a key priority for the club.
“Through ‘Reds for Red’, and by working with AXA and the Tara Ocean Foundation, we’re using our global platform to shine a light on the urgent need to protect our oceans and the ecosystems they support.
“This campaign builds on our focus on SDG 14 – ‘Life Below Water’ – and marks a continued step forward as we continue our efforts to advocate and champion for the ocean as part of our wider efforts through The Red Way.
“We’re proud to continue this journey and to use the platform of football to inspire action and drive meaningful, long-term change.”
LFC has now committed to all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 14: ‘Life Below Water’.
Ocean health and resilience is a key pillar of The Red Way, underpinning the club’s ambition to create a positive impact for people, planet and communities.
This campaign builds on that focus and expands on last year’s ‘Reds for Blue’ initiative, which generated more than nine million views and saw 68 per cent of supporters report a greater understanding of AXA’s sustainability efforts.
LFC, AXA and Tara Ocean Foundation were also invited to speak about the initiative at the United Nations Oceans Conference in June 2025.
Virginie Berçot, brand director at AXA, added: “By using the emotional and cultural power of football, drawing on the scientific knowledge brought by Tara Ocean Foundation and mobilising the collective energy carried by our three partners, this partnership enables us to share knowledge more widely and connect it to the crucial challenges of preserving life.
“Building bridges between researchers, athletes and the general public to spark lasting awareness and take concrete action in favour of protecting what matters is an approach we strongly believe in to reach as many people as possible.”
Reflecting the club’s ongoing commitment to ocean sustainability, colleagues have been guided through educational modules focused on biodiversity and the vital role oceans play in supporting life on Earth.
