Liverpool FC will show its support for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal 2023 next month with shirts embellished with poppies to mark Remembrance Day.

The Reds’ women’s team will wear their poppy shirts on Sunday November 5 when they take on Leicester City at Prenton Park. The men’s team will follow the weekend after by wearing their poppy shirts at their fixture against Brentford on Sunday November 12 at Anfield.

All players will sign their home poppy jerseys, which are worn to remember the service and sacrifice of the armed forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth, and donate them to the Royal British Legion to be auctioned to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal 2023.

Men’s captain Virgil van Dijk said: “As a team we proudly wear the poppy shirt to show our support and thanks to the armed forces community and their families for the sacrifices they make for us all.”

The Royal British Legion relies solely on the support of the public to provide lifelong support for both serving and ex-serving personnel and their families all year round.

Last year, the Reds’ commemorative shirts raised almost £49,000 for the Royal British Legion, and in the last 10 years LFC has raised more than £382,000 through donated poppy shirts.

Women’s skipper Niamh Fahey said: “It’s an honour to wear the poppy on our shirts to support and remember those who give so much to defend our freedom and way of life.”

A minute’s silence will be observed ahead of kick-off at both fixtures, and further support to the Poppy Appeal will be given through the LFC matchday programme, perimeter LED boards and a Premier League LFC poppy pin on sale in LFC’s online retail store.

One hundred per cent of the proceeds raised from sales of the badge will go directly to the Royal British Legion. To purchase a club-branded pin badge and show your support, please visit https://store.liverpoolfc.com/lfc-rbl-poppy or www.poppyshop.org.uk.

The club will also proudly host ex-service personnel and representatives from the Royal British Legion, as well as veterans from LFC Foundation’s military veterans programme, at Anfield to enjoy the game against Brentford on November 12.
