Liverpool FC has introduced a new incident reporting system to better support fans on a matchday at Anfield.

The safety of everyone attending Anfield is the club’s number one priority and this new user-friendly tool will help fans anonymously report concerns relating to any incidents of antisocial behaviour, tragedy chanting, discrimination or suspicious activity.

It will be available at this weekend’s game with West Ham United, when the club will mark the 36th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, to remember the 97 fans who died as a result of the events that occurred at the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.

The match will also be used to highlight the Premier League’s No Room For Racism campaign. The aim of the new reporting tool is to reduce incident response time and enable more accurate and efficient communication between fans and the club’s response team.

The new integrated service can be used by text or WhatsApp to report concerns, share images, video and the location of problems, allowing the stadium stewarding team to immediately respond if necessary.

A QR code and mobile number (+44 (0) 7701 411048) will be visible around the stadium; supporters simply scan or text the number and use an anonymous reporting channel. When the QR code is scanned, it automatically brings up a WhatsApp chat that fans can use to converse back and forth with.

The system encrypts a supporter’s mobile number, making all messaging confidential. It will be active and monitored from three hours before kick-off until one hour after the final whistle. Any messages received outside of this will have an automatic response directing the supporter to contact Supporter Services for assistance.

Each report will be responded to appropriately, with the club having a range of options at its disposal dependent on the outcome of its investigations, including working closely with Merseyside Police where necessary.

Helping fans report incidents at the club is in line with LFC’s Red Together strategy, which is its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. The new system aims to make a positive difference in the safety and security of fans at Anfield, and ensure it remains a welcoming and inclusive environment for all supporters.
