NewsLFC and The Red Way secure hat-trick of sustainability awards
The Red Way received the European Club Association Award for Sustainable Governance, which recognised the programme as a fundamental part of the club's values that successfully addresses key sustainability challenges.
Notable achievements include 94 per cent of the club's operations running on clean energy and LFC Foundation supporting 123,000 people in 2022-23.
At the 2024 Sports Positive Awards, The Red Way received the Education and Training award. This accolade celebrates the initiative's success in embedding sustainability as a lifestyle across all aspects of the club's operations.
The Red Way takes a holistic operation approach, including executing many cross-club and athlete-focused sustainability training programmes that cover ethics, equality, diversity, inclusion, environmental sustainability and community engagement.
It also actively encourages fans, through activations, to work towards sustainable living: evidenced by a 98 per cent reusable cup return rate.
The Red Way also claimed the Sustainable Packaging Award from the National Sustainability Awards 2024. Through The Red Way, LFC Retail has transformed packaging practices by replacing single-use plastics, reducing carbon emissions and eliminating unnecessary packaging.
With 74 per cent of its own-brand packaging now sustainably sourced, the club is making significant strides towards its 2030 net-zero carbon goal.
Rishi Jain, director of impact at LFC, said: "Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do as a club and by embedding it into our operations, we are actively shaping a better future for our communities, the planet, and the sport of football.
"This hat-trick of awards not only celebrates our progress but also underscores our commitment to inspiring others as we remain the leading sustainability programme within world football."
